A Thankful Heart

 

 

 

 

Its very easy to start to see the bad things about our lives

 

 

 

 

We see things we want, but don't have

 

 

 

 

We look at our hardships and trials

 

 

 

 

These things can really bring us down

 

 

 

 

Its important that we remember to be Thankful

"Rejoice always, pray continually, 
give thanks in all circumstances; 
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
-1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

 

 

 

 

Telling God "Thank You" does many things to our hearts

• It helps us get into His Presence

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.
-Psalm 100:1-5

• It helps us remember what God has done for us
• It keeps us from being deceived

"For although they knew God, 
they neither glorified him as God 
nor gave thanks to him, 
but their thinking became futile 
and their foolish hearts were darkened. 
Although they claimed to be wise, 
they became fools."
-Romans 1:21-22

• I think many people fall away from God because they forgot what He did for them
• Remembering God's love toward us isn't always natural
• This is why God commands His people to "Be Thankful"

 

 

 

 

In the Old Testament people would figure out ways to remember what God had done for them

 

 

 

 

Joshua had people pile up rocks that they had taken from the Jordan river up really high so they would remember that God let them cross it

 

 

 

 

Jesus has His followers take Communion -- so we remember that He gave His Body and His Blood for our salvation
